This yellowish-coloured paper is made from a special cellulose mixture that gives it exceptional strength, similar to that of Kraft paper used for packaging. The composition of the mixture produces a long-fibre paper, which makes it both soft and resistant. The term “spolvero” refers to a traditional technique used in the art of wall frescoes, particularly in religious representations. In this process, the design is drawn on paper and then punched around the edges. The design is then transferred to the wall surface using a ‘sprinkling’ of carbon black. A similar technique is used in the creation of mosaics, where small coloured tiles are selected and arranged precisely to form a complex image. In both cases, the precision and delicacy of the work require the use of resistant materials, such as this paper, which is ideal not only for frescoes and mosaics, but also for covering drawing tables, for sketches and for creating scenery.
